Round 2

Back in Toksook Bay as of yesterday afternoon.  Flights were good except that one tote that didn't make it.  Somehow it was lost in Chicago.  Hopefully it makes it tonight.

My dad and I have been cleaning away.  The house is almost completely clean and my classroom is coming along.  Look for pictures in the next week when I get finished.

  1. Hi not sure if you are able to read my comment, however let me persevere, I think I find the thought of existing in a cold climate quite fascinating, living at the bottom of Africa with todays temperature heading for 30 degrees C how do you actually manage the cold of Winter? We have just had Winter with day temps of 20 C. and we think it cold, night temps drop to zero C.are you able to grow vegetables? Look forward to your response. Kind regards, Paul

  2. Sorry I am just now responding. I have been super busy over the past few weeks.

It does get cold but we are just prepared for it. I don't let any skin show when it is really cold. I'm sure it's similar to the way you prepare for a really warm day. You just dress for it.

As far as vegetables go, I would assume you can grow them inside your home. You definitely cannot grow them outside due to the tundra (It's not very good for growing things that don't naturally grow there.

As for your previous question about the oil. That is a difficult one as I am not sure about the effects entirely. I do see some effects when the PFD (permanent fund dividend) comes out. This money comes out once a year and you are eligible after 2 years of living in the state. The check this year is supposed to be between $800-$1000. Everyone including children are eligible. This can be a tough time as some parents leave to Anchorage and the older children are responsible for getting themselves and their siblings to school. I can't really say anymore than that on here.

    Hopefully that is helpful.

  3. Wonderful many thanks for your response, looks like many folk are at least benefitting from the oil reserves at least. I wish you every success in your new career. One other question if I may, I am a keen birder and I am lucky to have recorded about 85 species seen in or from my yard, I have a property just shy of an acre with quite a lot on indigenous vegetation that I have planted over the last nearly 20 years, do you see a lot of bird species in your area?
