Classic. As part of your carry out order you can get cigarettes or Copenhagen. Only in the bush would you see this.
I am now 26 years old and this is my 5th year teaching in Toksook Bay. I teach 7th through 12th grade science, coach cross country, and I supervise science fair, just to name a few of my duties. Whew!!! that's a lot, and I am constantly kept busy. Overall I love what I do. Some days are hard and some days are amazing! I don't know how long I will stay here, but for now I believe I am where I am meant to be.

Blizzard
Yesterday was the first blizzard. Stayed inside pretty much all day watching the 50 mph winds blow snow everywhere. Sookie laid in front of her "bush fireplace" while I crocheted, watched a movie, and read a little.
Then we had a staff cookie exchange and game night!!! It was a blast!!! Trying to make antlers was epic. Our team lost pretty badly. we had good ideas but they just didn't pan out What a great night.
This morning I walked outside and this is what our doorway looked like.

Caught in the act
For those of you that didn't see my Facebook post, I caught a student cheating this past week. It was probably the best one I have caught so far. Usually they are blatantly obvious about cheating. This time a girl taped a sheet of paper between her legs. I saw her looking down and thought she had a phone so I stood at the back of the room to watch. As I was watching she was awkwardly lifting up her legs and I was a little concerned. As I walked to get a student's paper she lifted her leg and I saw the paper. I asked her to give me the paper and she handed me the test. I asked for the paper under her legs and she just turned away. Later I got this crumpled up piece of paper. When I read it later I realized it was just the answer to the bonus question. All that work to try to get 1 bonus point!!!

Crocheting
Well I have had lots of time to crochet so I thought I would share with you one of my projects. I gave this headband to Cisidra and she loved it:) When you have nothing to do but watch ER and crochet at night you learn to become very creative. I have also learned that when you can watch an episode of ER and it seem like its only been like 10 minutes that it is a sign you are getting way too involved. lol.
Thanksgiving
For Thanksgiving we had a feast at school. Basically the whole community comes out. The dance team performed before we ate. It was really cool to see what they had been working on at practice. And the feast turned out well too. We didn't run out of food and we as teachers even got food too.
The other good news is that Cisidra gets to go with Anna. I haven't said much about her. Basically she doesn't have anyone, but it is hard for a white person to adopt a native child. So one of the other teachers has been watching her in the hopes that her daugher would be able to adopt her. I will definitely miss her.

State meet
Here are some pics from the state meet. Sorry it had taken me so long to post these. My life has been just a little bit crazy as I have been trying to recover from going to the state xc meet in anchorage. I had a blast and it was a really cool experience. It even snowed the morning of the race. It just made the course even muddier. It was awesome to get food in anchorage as well. We had Olive Garden and cold stone on the trip (two of my favorites)

XC regionals
We went to Naknek this weekend. It was a beautiful flight out. The landscape was absolutely beautiful and I think everyone who was awake was glued to the window.
We got to Naknek and walked the course. And
then, of course, we had to go to "the store." And they had ice
cream!!!!
The day of the race was not as nice. It was a little wet and
muddy but John did awesome. He got 15th and that qualifies him for
state. So next weekend it's off to Anchorage. Or flight back was cloudy
and rainy so that was a disappointment. But at least we made it to
Bethel. Unfortunately our athletes wanted to get stuck and it happened.
We took off and about 5 minutes in we turned around due to a warning
light. Then we got put on wether hold for the next hour before our
flight was cancelled. (The weather wasn't that bad but they probably
just didn't want to put us up for a night.) So for the 3rd night I got
to sleep on the floor. No sleeping in this weekend for me. But in the
bright side I got to go shopping at the AC. (Excited for the fresh
produce!!!) now we are at era. Hopefully we will take off at 12:30.
(Fingers crossed)
